UPDATE ON 10/26/20: Travel Basketball is STILL on hold until further notice. FURTHER INFORMATION EXPECTED BY MID-NOVEMBER. The following message comes from Central Mass Youth Basketball League (CMYBL). August 19, 2020 UPDATE: We hope we can have a travel basketball season this winter. Right now however, starting like we normally would in November is probably impossible. In addition to the rules and guidelines of what is and isn't allowed by the state, a huge hurdle for the 44 programs in CMYBL is gym time. School districts don't know what they're going to allow for classes during the day; renting gym time to outside groups for practices and games is about the last thing they're worried about. That in mind, we are delaying the planned opening day of the 2020-2021 travel basketball season to January 10 or 17, 2021. Our hope is by pushing the start date back, programs can have some more time to get organized and see if a season is feasible for their town. Assuming we start in January, the season would be a 9-10 week season with games most likely being played on least one if not both Sunday's of February vacation week. Playoffs would occur in late March.

Tryout Information

For the Travel program, we use tryouts to best determine the travel teams for the season.  During the tryout sessions, we use independent evaluators as well as coaches to determine the team rosters.  Many times it works out that a team has the right number of players trying out and there are no cuts.  Sometimes, there are cuts made due to a high number of players going out for one team.  We feel we provide a fair tryout environment for all players to do their best.  There are sometimes where a player may benefit from playing another year of rec basketball to gain more experience and then try in the next year.  NYB Travel President, John Lahar, coordinates and oversees the tryout sessions. Please contact John with any questions or concerns.
