General FAQs

Which basketball program is best for my child - rec or travel?

The Rec program is for those players ranging from beginners who are looking to learn how to play basketball to players that want to fine tune their skills, play games and have fun in a less competitive environment.  Kids in the Rec program learn a tremendous amount of basketball and all players are welcome.  The Travel program are for those players that may already have basketball experience and want to take their game to the next level.  Travel players will try out for a team and play in competitive games against other towns throughout the season.

Note: Kids may choose to play both, the Rec league and the Travel league.

Does NYB offer registration discounts for families or special circumstances?

Both the Rec program and Travel program have registration discounts/caps for families registering multiple children. We also never want finances to get in the way of having your child play sports. Please contace the league president, AJ Byrne with any questions. All inquiries are held strictly confidential.

My child plays in the Rec league, do I need to buy a uniform?

Players in the older divisions (6-12th grade) will be required to buy a Nipmuc Youth Basketball team jersey.  Visit the Recreation Basketball page for more information.

My child plays in the Travel league, do I need to buy a uniform?

All players on travel teams are required to buy a uniform. Coaches will reach out to parents to discuss during the early part of the season.  The uniforms are yours to keep.

Is their a refund policy if we decide not to play?

Registration fees can be refunded and are based on the timeframe of the refund.  For the Travel program, there is a grace period where refunds will be granted. However, one week after teams are announced we cannot grant refunds.  For the Recreation program, refunds will be granted up until the first week of practice.

As a parent, how do I get involved in the basketball programs?

The NYB is always looking for help from parents.  If you are looking to coach, help out at practices, help with fundraising or any other help you might be able to offer, please let us know!!

Who do I contact if I have a concern or question during the season?

Please contact Scott Evens for the Recreation Program, John Lahar for the Travel Program. If necessary, inquiries will be reviewed by the NYB Board.
